SunWest Park

SunWest Park Logo

Fun on and off the water for the whole family!

SunWest Park is a new recreational waterfront facility in northwest Pasco, just off of Hwy 19. The park has been developed around a former limestone mine, known locally as “SunWest Mines”. Gracing the shores of the 70 acre spring-fed lake you will find beautiful white sand that creates an unparalleled beach atmosphere.

With the gorgeous, natural setting, relaxing in the sun comes easy! For those who also want to participate in activities, we offer a variety of amenities. For the explorer, we offer paddleboarding and kayaking. Participants can paddle around anywhere on the lake, checking out some of the unique marine life. The Aqua Park is also a huge hit and a fun challenge. This inflatable obstacle course on the water was easily the most popular attraction at SunWest this summer. We also just opened our Sesitec System 2.0 for wakeboarding, and are in the midst of development for the Full Size Cable. With plans to be a premier wakeboard facility, what we currently offer is just the beginning. Join us for a day of fun in the sun with the whole family!

What amenities does SunWest offer?

In addition to our spring-fed, cool water swimming areas, we offer several other amenities. Paddleboards and kayaks are great for all levels of experience. We also have the only open-water Aqua Park in the area! While our wakeboard park is still under development, we are excited to offer a Full Size Cable and a System 2.0 this summer.

Do I need to sign a waiver to participate in activities?

Yes you will need to sign a waiver for any activity requiring a USCG approved life vest. You must be 18 years old or older to sign the waiver. If you are under 18 years of age, you must have a parent or legal guardian signature on the release. You can sign a waiver at the park.

When will the zip line be open?

A zip line is part of future development. The towers and cables you see now are part of a wakeboard cable System 2.0. It will be up and running shortly!

What is a System 2.0?

Developed and installed by Sesitec USA, a System 2.0 is a wakeboarding cable system with two towers.  A cable runs over head between the two towers, with a tow rope and handle. A rider gets pulled on a wakeboard behind the cable. This system is a great opportunity for beginners to learn, as well as for experienced riders to practice their tricks on our spine kicker and modular box.  Come learn how to ride on the 2.0 this summer, so you’re ready to ride on our Full Size Cable system, coming Summer of 2016!

What is a Full Size Cable?

Developed and installed by Sesitec USA, a Full Size Cable consists of six overhead towers with running cable between them that pull several wakeboarders around the lake at a time by ropes. Environmentally friendly, a Full Size Cable allows you to enjoy towed watersports with out the high cost of owning a boat and paying for gas. Learn how to ride this Summer at SunWest Park!

What is an Aqua Park?

Our Aqua Park is a one-of-a-kind, inflated playground on the water. Our course is designed by Commercial Recreational Specialists and built by Wibit, the official product of World AquaGames Association. The Aqua Park is a sure way to have fun on the water. Don’t miss out on this unique, recreational facility!

Can I bring my own gear for the amenities?

You may bring your own life vest, wakeboard, and helmet. You are welcome to swim in our swim areas with a life vest. To use it with any of our amenities, we must be able to verify that it is a properly fitting, U.S. Coast Guard Approved life vest.

Please leave your kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards at home. To ensure the safety of all patrons, we do not permit the use of personal “vessels” at our park.

Are there any restrictions to using the Aqua Park?

With our new Aqua Park installed April 2016, there are new minimum requirements for the safety of everyone and the best possible experience of individuals:

  • Guests must be at least 48 inches tall and 6 years old to participate on the Aqua Park without an adult
  • Guests must be at least 40 inches tall and 6 years old to participate on the Aqua Park with an adult over 18 years old.
  • All participants must wear a US Coast Guard approved life vest at all times.

No exceptions will be made to these restrictions, as they are in place for the safety of everyone.

Do I have to go with my child to help him/her on the Aqua Park?

As long as your child is at least 6 years old and 48 inches tall, we do not require that you go with him or her. However, there are some challenging features on the Aqua Park, and you should consider your child’s strength and agility when deciding whether or not to go with him or her. There will be “Aqua Guides” on each Aqua Park session. Aqua Guides’ primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of everyone. Their secondary responsibility is to provide broad help when they can, either by assisting them up physically or providing tips and techniques to overcoming features. However, if you want to ensure that your child has individualized help, it is best that you participate on the Aqua Park with him or her.

Can I scuba dive or fish?

Currently we are not offering fishing at SunWest Park. Scuba diving is allowed during special events hosted by scuba clubs.

Can I bring my own alcohol?

Alcohol is not permitted on SunWest property. To keep our park family friendly and to protect patrons from accidents, we do not allow alcohol of any kind. We reserve the right to search personal belongings, and to ask any patrons to leave if they are suspected to have alcohol in their system.

Can I bring my pets?

To protect other patrons and to keep our sand clear of smelly, brown piles, we ask you to leave your furry friends at home. This also keeps our water quality at a high, healthy standard! That being said, we gladly welcome service dogs. Please be prepared to verify that your dog is a service dog, and clean up after your dog.

Can I bring my own kayak/paddleboard?

At this time, we do not have a launch for personal boats.  We think our rates are pretty good though!

Can I bring my own food?

You are welcome to pack picnic lunches (that do not contain alcohol). We encourage packing lots of water to keep you and your family hydrated.

Can I bring a grill?

To avoid fire hazards and to keep our beach clean, we do not allow grills at SunWest Park at this time.

Can I bring my own umbrellas and beach chairs?

Absolutely! We want you to be able to relax in the shade with your favorite beach chair! We also have adirondack beach chairs available on a first come first serve basis. Please refrain from bringing items that have logos promoting companies, brands, or products (sports teams or schools would are okay).

Can I bring my own radio/portable stereo?

We love music! Please keep whatever music you do play clean and family friendly, and be respectful of others with the volume.

Can I bring my own volleyball net and ball?

You are welcome to bring your own volleyball. Please refrain from bringing your own net, as we have our own nets/sleeves, and the rest of the beach is intended for patrons to sit back and relax.

How much does it cost?

There is a $5 parking fee to enter the park. The parking meter takes cash or credit and does not give change, please bring 5 $1’s or a $5 bill. Check the pricing for amenities, swimming is free!

What if the parking lot is full?

Our parking lot has limited capacity while we are still in the development stage. Once the paved 250 spots are filled, they’re filled! Law enforcement personnel will be ticketing cars parked on Old Dixie Hwy and Race Track Rd.

Are there refunds or re-entry for parking?

We do not offer refunds or re-entry with parking. In the event of inclement weather, we will not offer refunds on parking. If you leave the park, you must pay to re-enter.

Do you have an annual parking pass?

We are working on an annual parking pass. We will make an announcement as soon as they are available!

I’m coming from out of town. Where should I stay?

We are proud to partner with three local hotels, and there is something for every budget.  We encourage you to stay at these locations, as they provide discounts for guests who mention they’re with SunWest Park. Call their offices for rates: Hampton Inn in Port Richey, Homewood Suites in Port Richey, and Holiday Inn in Port Richey.

What happens if there is inclement weather?

At SunWest Park, we prioritize your safety. We will evacuate the swim sections immediately when lightning is in the area. Lightning can strike from 10 miles away. We monitor lightning closely during these times, and open up the water front as soon as the lightning has cleared. On average, Florida boasts 1.4 million lightning strikes per year. Since 2006 there have been on average 51 deaths per year due to lightning strikes. In other words, the only lightning we like here at SunWest Park is the Tampa Bay Lightning! We appreciate your cooperation with our safety precautions.

Are there refunds for weather?

We do not offer refunds on parking for any reason. If you have paid for an amenity, we are happy to offer a voucher for you to redeem at a later date

Will the park be open all year long?

Hours and days will change seasonally. In addition to this, parts of the park will be closed for development throughout the year.

Can you host special events?

Yes, our facility is capable of hosting everything from a team party to a major sporting event. Many smaller events (team party, office party, birthday party, class party, etc) simply require an amenity activity reservation. To do that, please contact our office at 727.569.6472.  For information about scheduling a large-scale event, please contact our event coordinator by email,  At this time, we do not host weddings.

Can I plan a birthday party at SunWest?

Yes! Many happy kids spend their birthday on our Aqua Park with their closest friends!  Please click here for more information regarding birthdays.

Can I access the entire beach?

While we are in our development stage, parts of our park will be closed. Please observe signs indicating closed off sections.

Can I swim anywhere I want?

We have limited swimming areas. You may only swim in the buoyed areas.

Is there access to the Gulf?

Currently there is no access from SunWest Park to the Gulf.

Is this a freshwater lake?

Our lake is fed by a freshwater spring. However, because we are so close to the Gulf, there is saltwater seeping through underground, which creates a brackish quality of water. The saline content is so low that you can comfortably open your eyes underwater!

Is there bacteria in the water?

We have our water tested regularly for bacteria related to fecal matter and can proudly say it has consistently tested as very sanitary, clean water.

While SunWest boasts a spring-fed lake, we are next door to a saltwater channel that extends from the Gulf. Because of that, our lake does contain a low salinity content – low enough to comfortably open your eyes underwater. Vibrio vulnificus, is a bacteria that naturally occurs in warm, brackish water. We invite all guests to educate themselves on V. vulnificus and to make an informed decision about swimming in any saltwater body.  More information is available at and we will have information from the CDC (Centers for Disease and Control Prevention) available at our office at SunWest.

Can I smoke?

To keep the sand, water, and air clean, we do not permit the use of tobacco products on our property.

Are there showers and restrooms available?

We have several shower stations located conveniently between the beach area and parking lot. We also have a restroom building located at the south-east corner of the park facility.

Are there covered areas to get out of the sun?

Adjacent to our restroom building is a pavilion with picnic tables.

What food vendors are at SunWest Park?

We currently do not have a food vendor at SunWest Park. You are welcome to pack a picnic for you and your family. Please keep in mind no grills or glass on site. We will have food vendors in the near future!

Is SunWest handicap equipped?

Yes! We have a ramp going into our main office, and many slopes going down to our beach.
